Catasauqua school board approves positions, courses

The Catasauqua School Board approved and reapproved a number of positions during the board's Aug. 13 meeting.

They include, 13 noncertified instructional aides at a stipend of $102.50 per day and one certified instructional aide at a rate of $145 per day.

Shannon Van-Spanje was also approved to serve as a part-time Catasauqua Middle School guidance counselor at 40 percent and Katrina Bullock as a long-term earth science teacher at Catasauqua High School.

In addition, the board approved the removal of 28 day-to-day substitute teachers, five guest substitute teachers, two substitute noncertified instructional aides, a substitute secretary, two substitute cafeteria workers and one substitute cafeteria monitor, six substitute custodians and 60 substitute teachers and 10 substitute guest teachers.

In other business, the board approved salaries and rates for the 2012-13 school year and planned courses of study for seventh-grade earth science, eighth-grade life science, Algebra I for grades eight and nine, geometry for grades nine and 10, Geometry A for grade 10 and Geometry B for grade 11, career skills for grade 11 and advanced placement honors-level world history for grade 10.

The AP world history textbook was also approved.

A food service contract for the upcoming school year was also approved with the Medical Academy Charter School. Board goals were approved as well as service contracts with Howard Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Company, Patriot Security, ImPact Applications, Inc.

A CHS weight room service agreement with Joseph Stofko, Jr., got a board OK as well.

The school board will hold a workshop meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 in the district administration office board room.
