CHS volleyball sweeps Salem Christian
It was refreshing to see Salem Christian High School and Catasauqua High join hands and say a prayer before their volleyball match last Friday afternoon.
Catty would sweep, thanks in part to some early errors. The first game had seven net balls for the Eagles.
Lauren Pluchinsky made two strong kill shots and Salem had three net balls and called a time out. But, Pluchinsky struck again and Samantha Schnabel added an ace and Catty was up 10-2.
Sabrinna Oliver, Frederick and Megan Murawski all made kills. Alissa Frederick put Salem Christian away with two aces to win 25-7.
In the second game, the Eagles were too deep to react to the Roughie smashes until Abbey Buck turned things around. Buck made a block and had two straight kills and things were looking up for Salem, which was playing their first match of the season. Setter Sami Miller and Erika Krage was solid at middle hitter and the Eagles had an 8-4 lead.
Sabrinna Oliver righted the ship for Catty with an ace and kill. Pluchinsky made a block and a kill and next thing Catty was up 16-12, which forced an Eagle time out.
It proved to be a back and forth game with Pluchinsky getting two aces in a row. Schnabel, a junior, fired two kill shots in a row.
Salem didn't go away, and Krage countered with three kills. Buck was back with an ace and a block and the Brown and White were up just 23-20.
During an Eagle timeout Coach Arndt told the Roughs to finish them off. Catty came through with a Schnabel block. Hope Golden assisted Pluchinsky's winning spike to win 25-21.
The third game was dominated by Catty who won 25-12 to win the match and Schnabel's ace did in the Royals.
Pluchinsky had 10 kills, Frederick had seven Golden had 31 assists.
