Wrestlers go 3-2 at Catasauqua Duals

The 2012 Catasauqua Duals Wrestling Tournament took place on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Scranton took first, Pius X was second and Palmerton was third.

Catty went 3-2 in the duals. They defeated Lake Lehman 34-33 in their first match and followed that with a loss to Pius X 38-27. Catty won over Allen, 55-24 in their third match. The Roughs would then fall to eventual winner Scranton 52-18 before defeating Central in their final match, 48-22.

The Leroy Bolmer Outstanding Wrestler award went to Mike Rodgers of Central.

Against Lake Lehman, and with the score 28-27 in favor of Catty after the 220 bout, Jacob Schlinkman came up with a key pin in just 37 seconds to make the score 34-27. After a double-forfeit at 106, Catty would be secured a victory.

Tyler Trobetsky had a pin in 1:04 for the Roughs at 170. Rhain Sziy won 17-7 at 182, Zack Bradley won 4-2 at 160, Casey Simmons won 8-2 at 145. Nate Doria won by forfeit at 138 as did Kory Mindler at 120.

Against Pius, Trobetsky had a pin in just 40-seconds and Sziy pinned his opponent in 44-seconds. Bradley won 6-5. Mindler, and Nosal won by forfeit.

Against Allen, Catty started with three-straight pins: Rusnock at 132 in 3:08, Doria in 1:15 at 138 and Simmons in 5:20 at 145. That made the score 18-0 and Catty never looked back, extending its lead to 49-6 after the 285 bout.

Trobetsky recorded a pin in 1:36, Sziy a pin in 1:25, Satchel Stauffer a pin in 1:00 and Ty Kern a pin in 1:21 at 126.

Bradley won 8-0 and Schlinkman won 5-2.

Against Scranton, Catty fell behind 19-3 before cutting it to 19-12. However, Scranton eventually pulled away to take a 49-12 lead.

Bradley got Catty on the board with a 6-2 win that made it 13-3. Sziy had a pin at 182 and then Nosal an 8-5 win at 195 to cut it to 19-12. But, the Roughs next win was a pin by Kern at 126.

Against Central, Catty jumped out to a 42-0 lead. Simmons got things started at 145 with a pin and Colten Merwarth pinned next. Bradley had a 5-2 win which was followed by Trobetsky and Sziy pins. Nosal won 8-6 at 195 and Stauffer pinned at 220 for a 36-0 lead. Schlinkman won by forfeit at 285. Doria ended things with a pin at 138.
