Winter programs begin this week at the YMCA

Get out of the cold and join the Y! Suburban North Family YMCA is accepting Winter Program registrations, which will begin this week.

Many new programs are available at the Y, which serves North Catasauqua, Catasauqua and other area residents. Among them are art classes for children, adults and seniors; indoor field hockey; Pilates; cardio kickboxing; and beginners soccer for 2-year-olds. Also offered are a variety of Zumba classes six days per week with child care available.

Fitness instructors are certified and all of program instructors are current and former coaches or individuals with experience.

A family membership includes two adults, all children ages 14-18, and children in grades 5 to 8 have access to weight rooms and cardio rooms with parent. All family members must reside in the same household. Family memberships also include free group fitness classes, free child watch, use of the basketball court and reduced fee for programs.

If you cannot afford a membership, financial assistance is offered to those who qualify. Applications are available at the YMCA or by calling 610-264-5221.


The Catasauqua Thrift Shop was closed the week between Christmas and New Year, but is now open with clothing for the entire family. Stop by at 113 Bridge St., Catasauqua, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations of good, used clothing are accepted during store hours. Proceeds from the shop are returned to the Catasauqua community through contributions to youth and adult programs and services.
