NOLA on the Lehigh: The New Orleans, Louisiana (NOLA) jazz sound of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, above, opens RiverJazz, 7:30 p.m. May 9, Musikfest Café, ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem. The group, a touring act for half a century, derives its name from Preservation Hall, the venerable music venue in the heart of New Orleans' French Quarter that was founded in 1961 by Allan and Sandra Jaffe. Whether performing at Carnegie Hall or Lincoln Center, for British Royalty or the King of Thailand or down by the Lehigh River at Musikfest Cafe in Bethlehem its music embodies a joyful, timeless spirit. Return to Corea: Chick Corea, above, who performs 7:30 p.m. May 22 during RiverJazz, is a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, brilliant composer and keyboard virtuoso who has attained living legend status after five decades of unparalleled creativity and artistic output. During his career, Corea has touched an astonishing number of musical bases, from straight-ahead jazz, bebop and fusion, to children's songs and chamber music. In 2012, Corea received his 17th and 18th Grammy Awards, one for Instrumental Jazz Album for "Forever" with Stanley Clarke and Lenny White, and the other for Improvised Jazz Solo for "500 Miles High" from "Forever."
