Byron A. Young, 73, from Allentown, died May 15, 2013, in Phoebe Home, Allentown.

He was the husband of the late Sandra S. (Goides) Young.

Born Dec. 17, 1939, in Allentown, he was the son of the late Theodore A. and Arlene M. (Getz) Young.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force during a peacetime era.

He was a station mechanic and welder for PPL, Martins Creek, for 28 years before retiring in 1995.

Active in his community, he was a member of the Kilowatt Craftsman's Club and the Parkland Trojan Alumni Varsity Club.

A 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member of Chapman Lodge 637, F.&A.M. and past high priest of the Siegfried Royal Arch Chapter No. 295.

He was a member of Ray A. Master American Legion Post 217, Topton.

He had the distinction of playing on the first Parkland High School football team.

Having a love for the outdoors, he enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing and treasured 30 years of hunting with his son, Ted.

He particularly valued his lifelong friends.

His survivors include children Theodore D. and his wife, Sandra, of Slatington, Cheryl A. Schaffer and her husband, Michael, of Slatington, Jennifer S. Howell and her husband, Jonathan, of Portsmouth, Va.; siblings Donald T. of Northampton, Robert A. of Maryland, Loretta A. Serfass and Patricia A. Bartholomew, both of Allentown; grandchildren Michael, Jr., Richard, Ellysa, Zachary, Stephanie, Theodore II, Conrad and Evelyn; and great-grandson, Connor.

He was predeceased by a brother, Allan A.
