Local softball players see time in tourneys

The softball players from the Colonial League championship team are keeping real busy this summer.

Olivia Schlofer and Abby Preletz played for the Shockers 16U team this weekend at the Blast at the Beach Tournament in Ocean City, Maryland.

"It was a great experience for the two of us three Catty High School players," Abby Preletz said.

Janae Matos also played at the tournament for the Northwest Explosion 18U. The Explosion made it to the semifinals before getting knocked out of the tournament.

It was a good chance to warm up for yet another upcoming tournament for Matos.

"I continue to practice and prepare for the Carpenter Cup," Matos said.

Carpenter Cup action begins next Monday, June 24.

Rising sophomore Hannah Edwards played for the LowerSouth Liberty 18U Gold Team in Columbus, Ohio, in a PGF National qualifier this past weekend.

Edwards and her teammates won the tournament and will be heading to Huntington Beach, California, in July to play in the National Championships.

Edwards continued to do her thing, and reached base 11 times in 19 at bats while batting leadoff.

"I have been happy with our team's performance so far," Edwards said.

The Northampton Legion baseball team won two more games this week to raise its record to 6-3 losses.

Zac Edwards had the game-winning RBI hit while knocking in Brandon Heimbach in a 1-0 victory over Hellertown. Edwards also had a bases loaded, three-run triple to lead the Kids to an 8-1 win over Wind Gap. He was also 2-for-2 day in a loss to Roseto.

Edwards said, "We're missing catcher Randal Pacchioli from our lineup this week. He is away on vacation."
