Rock the River Oct. 11, 12

The Tri-Boro Sportsmen Club will hold a Rock the River fall festival Oct. 11 and 12, noon-6 p.m., at the club on West 21st Street.

The festival will feature live music, food, refreshments and family fun.

The purpose of this event is to fund the cost of the club's music licenses.

Saturday will feature a college football game/tailgate atmosphere with music by Trick Stacy and Social Call. Beer-tasting sessions will be sponsored by several local beer distributors. A chili cook-off with a traditional and nontraditional division will take place as well. The main event on Saturday is tailgate game tournaments with several local restaurants entering teams. Those restaurants will be competing for the Tailgate Cup, which will go to the best overall team.

The day will also include tournaments in horseshoes, quoits, corn hole, washers, ladder ball, bean bags, beer pong and human foosball.

All teams must register with Tri-Boro by Wednesday, Oct. 8.

Sunday will feature a motorcycle and classic car show. Ian Gallagher and Sons of Izzy will provide the entertainment. Unique to Sunday will be a mechanical bull and open tailgate games.

A pumpkin-chucking contest will be held as well.

Crafters and vendors will be available on both days, as well as plenty of fall picnic and ethnic foods and refreshments.

There will activities for the kids and families: a pumpkin-painting contest each day, sand art, a hay maze and a scavenger hunt.

There is a cost. Tickets are available at or in person at Tri-Boro during the club's business hours: Monday-Friday, 5-9 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

A barbecue platter, entertainment and refreshments are included with the price of the ticket.

St. John's Friendly Fifties will meet Monday, Oct. 13, 1 p.m., in the church's social hall, 1343 Newport Ave. Pete Begley will entertain.
