Beginning with the statement, “I have a major announcement,” at the May 9 Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners meeting, commissioners President Phillips Armstrong reported a seniors fair is being sponsored by the three mayors in the area — North Catasauqua Mayor Bill Molchany, Northampton Mayor Thomas Reenock and Whitehall Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr.

It will be an event the area has not seen before, Armstrong said.

Dubbed The Great Northern Seniors Fair, the fair will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 5 at Northampton Banquet & Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave., Northampton.

Area state legislators often hold similar events that draw big crowds, showcasing health screenings and vendors from senior independent and assisted living care facilities.

The August seniors fair planned for Northampton is expected to have a broader reach and will include an extensive amount of county-supported and independent services and information for seniors.

Breakfast and light lunch items will be available for the large number of people expected to show up for the fair.

There will be displays offering a host of services, including testing for blood pressure, eye examinations, financial advice, home care and much more.

Taking into account many seniors like to go on bus trips, Armstrong said tour bus operators and travel agencies also will be present at the seniors fair.

Banks, credit unions and real estate firms will be represented as well.
