Police take woman with handgun into custody
A report of an intoxicated woman brandishing a handgun brought Whitehall Township police March 4 to the 300 block of Calvert Street.
According to a press release, police officers were called to the scene 10:43 a.m.
The release said the woman, who remains unidentified, walked away from a residence in that area. Officers spotted the her at the intersection of Fairmont and Fullerton avenues.
At that time, they noticed the woman was in a possession of a handgun.
The officers then formed a perimeter and properly contained her, the release said.
The Lehigh County Municipal Emergency Response Team negotiated with the woman and took her into custody at 12:55 p.m. She was later transported to St. Luke’s Hospital-Allentown for a mental health evaluation, according to the release.
Township police were assisted by Whitehall and Catasauqua and Coplay borough fire police; Pennsylvania State Police, Allentown; Lehigh Valley International Airport police; a Pennsylvania Wildlife Conservation officer; and Cetronia Emergency Medical Services.
