Fire crews douse fire
A two-alarm attic fire brought North Catasauqua and Catasauqua fire departments to the 1100 block of Third Street Sunday morning.
North Catasauqua Fire Chief Shawn McGinley told The Press Monday the department received a call around 11:15 a.m. for an attic fire at 1140 Third St.
The fire, McGinley said, was contained within 20 minutes.
“We got it under control pretty quickly,” he said.
McGinley said 1140 Third St., half of a duplex, sustained smoke and water damage in the attic and throughout the rest of the house. Also, 1138 Third St. sustained some smoke and water damage to the attic.
An individual was present in the attic of 1138 Third St. when the fire started and was transported to an area hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, McGinley said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“Everything appears to be accidental,” he said.
Assisting at the scene were Whitehall Township, Han-Le-Co, Coplay and Allen Township fire departments and Northampton Emergency Medical Services.
“The crews did a really good job stopping the fire and containing it in the attic,” McGinley said.
