John “Jack” R. Deutsch, 76, of Whitehall Township, died unexpectedly April 7, 2017. He was the husband of Mary Deutsch for 41 years.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Ida Deutsch and the late John Deutsch and stepmother Tessie Deutsch. He grew up in Northampton and Egypt.

He worked for Bethlehem Steel Corporation for more than 35 years and retired in 1995 when steel-making at the Bethlehem main plant closed. He was a heavyweight boxer, runner and bouncer in the Lehigh Valley.

In addition to his wife, he is survived two children, Matthew and his wife Laura of Macungie and Jenna and her husband Michael Griffin of Whitehall; three grandchildren, Caroline Deutsch and Cole and Tessa Griffin; and an uncle and aunt, John Fiorello of New York and Michalena “Lena” Fiorello of Allentown.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald and Ricky.
