LCCC offers teachers ‘Edugaming 2017’

Thursday, May 4, 2017 by The Press in Business Showcase

Through a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) is offering a five-day “Edugaming 2017” workshop for teachers, June 19 - 22, with an additional workshop Nov. 4, at the main campus, Schnecksville, North Whitehall Township,

Through hands-on activities and presentations from educators and industry experts, participants will learn a variety of game design approaches that remove the “quiz” aspect of educational games and replace it with exploratory, engaging techniques.

A participant who completes five days of the workshop and develops a game for use in his or her classrooms in accordance with the Edugaming Framework presented in the workshop will be paid $500.

Middle school, high school and college teachers, as well as pre-service education majors, are eligible to participate. Games created through the workshop will not be computer-based so they can be created and used by educators, regardless of technical expertise.

The event includes a continental breakfast and lunch. There is no cost to participants.

Space is limited. An application is required to be submitted on or before May 12. No previous experience with game design is necessary.
