North Catasauqua: Committee seeks contestants for Oct. 8 halupkie contest
Do you like to eat? Do you like stuffed cabbage?
Then you should consider entering the halupki-eating contest at the 11th annual Best of North Catasauqua Autumnfest & Car Show Oct. 8. The contest begins 3:30 p.m. at the North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St. The contest is open to the general public, 18 years of age or older. The winner takes home $100 cash!
Sign up now. Entry forms are available at North Catasauqua Borough Hall, or you may have one mailed to you by emailing NCataCentennial@aol.com.
The contest is limited to 10 participants. If available, entries may still be accepted on the day of the event.
The festival and the contest are presented by the North Catasauqua Betterment Committee.
Autumnfest will be 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 8. Crafters, flea marketers, car show participants and businesses should contact the betterment committee to receive entry forms to participate.

The Catasauqua Thrift Shop, 113 Bridge St, Catasauqua, will be closed Sept. 11-13 for cleaning and changeover to fall and winter clothing. The shop reopens Sept. 14 will all new clothing.
The thrift shop is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays. Donations of good, used, clean clothing are accepted during store hours.
Proceeds from the thrift shop are returned to the community through contributions that support youth and adult programs and services
Hickory Grove is celebrating its 100-year anniversary by hosting the Miller-Keystone bloodmobile 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 23. Blood donors may sign up at Hickory Grove or online at GIVEaPINT.org. If signing up online, use the group ID 7943.
While online, you may also use iScreen to complete your donor history questionnaire, to answer questions about your heath and lifestyle in private and save time the day of donation.
In appreciation of your donation, Hickory Grove will issue discount coupons for Hickory Grove products.
North Catasauqua’s Charotin Hose Company will host a cash and dinner bingo at the Slovak Social Club Sept. 24. The doors will open 12:30 p.m., and bingo will begin 1:30 p.m.
Each ticket includes 15 games of bingo with cash prizes and a meal. There will also be additional games, door prizes and raffles, all to benefit the volunteer fire department.
