School board approves annual appointments

The Catasauqua Area School Board recently approved a number of staff and extracurricular positions.

At its August meeting, the board approved by a vote of 5-0 the reappointment of noncertified instructional aides. Those approved to serve at Catasauqua High School include learning support one-on-one aide Cynthia Bass; Yvette Campbell for the library; learning support and study hall aide Phillip Dorn; Karla Fryslin for the study hall and library; Susan Lesko for emotional support; Jessica Suhaka for work experience and life skills; and Jacqueline Yanek for work experience, life skills and IDEA.

Those approved to serve at Catasauqua Middle School include Lisa Casciotti for fifth- and sixth-grade learning support; Cherie Gebhardt for emotional support; Joanne Heffner for seventh- and eighth-grade learning support; Tanya Saruba for emotional support; and Nicholas Tkach for life skills one-on-one.

Approved to serve at Sheckler Elementary School are Karen Casey for learning support; Sarah Forstoffer for life skills one-on-one; Lois Morissey for learning support one-on-one; Claire Murawski for kindergarten learning support; Gwen Mutarelli for learning support one-on-one; and Laurie Nabbia for first-grade learning support.

The positions are effective Aug. 21-June 8, 2018, and those approved will receive a daily rate of $116.

Certified instructional aides approved by the board also include Sheckler Title 1 aides Emma Jones, Terri Lubenesky and Colleen Whitsett. The positions are effective Aug. 21-June 8, 2018, and those approved will receive a daily rate of $153.

In other business, the board approved extracurricular positions, including Vicki MacLaughlin as CMS Student Forum adviser, with a shared stipend of $392; Brenda McGuire as CHS Drama Club director, with a stipend of $4,172; Kerry McGuire as CHS Drama Club assistant director, with a stipend of $2,060; and Lisa Roth as CMS Scholastic Bowl adviser, with a shared stipend of $509 and CMS newsletter adviser, with a shared stipend of $258.50.

Also approved were Jonathan Kiefer as CMS Student Forum adviser, with a stipend of $392; Amanda Graser and John Lucas, both as assistant CHS marching band directors, with a stipend of $1,733; Matthew Hagelgans as CHS assistant football coach, with a stipend of $4,633; Ronald Savoia and Scott Rothrock, both as CHS volunteer assistant football coaches; Jamal Arnaout as CHS assistant boys soccer coach, with a stipend of $2,671; Abigail Hawk as CHS assistant girls volleyball coach, with a stipend of $2,000; and Jennifer Keppel as CHS assistant field hockey coach, with a stipend of $2,671.

The board approved tenure for CHS music teacher Robert Arnold, CHS English teacher Andrew Gruver, CHS eighth-grade teacher Janine Hemond, Sheckler special education teachers Kimberly Labezius and Jaclyn Nelson, and CMS special education teacher Jami Rose Polony.

The next board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 12 in the district administration office board room, 201 N. 14th St.
