Northampton Fire Department volunteer

Larry L. Swanger, 67, of Walnutport, died Sept. 5, 2017, in his home. He was the fiance of Catherine L. (Shick) Smith with whom he resided.

Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late William H. and Margaret M. (Soos) Swanger.

He was a 1970 graduate of Palmerton High School.

He was the head fabricator for the former Lee Held Steel/Metal Fabricators, Northampton; and later at SMF Company, Palmerton, for 20 years until he retired.

He was known as “the golf cart guy” as he serviced, sold and customized golf carts for several years.

He was a member, volunteer and former assistant fire chief for Northampton Borough.

In addition to his fiancee, he is survived by a daughter, Michelle Swanger of Allentown; a son, Chad and wife Jamie Swanger of Lehighton; a stepson, Kendall and his wife Dina Galusha of Kreidersville; nine grandchildren; a sister, Sharon and her husband William Chapman of Summit Hill; a brother, George and his wife Rita Swanger of Kunkletown; nieces; and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Mack; two brothers, William R. and infant James J.; and a grandson, Dakota Galusha.
