Whitehall woman charged with sexual contact with prisoner

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin announced Tuesday that a nurse who formerly was employed at Lehigh County Jail has been charged with alleged inappropriate sexual contact with a prisoner.

Danika Alexander, 27, of 1205 Overlook Road, Whitehall Township, was charged with one count of institutional sexual assault, a felony of the third degree, Martin said.

Alexander, a licensed practical nurse, was employed by Prime Care Medical at the time of the incident and working at Lehigh County Jail. Prime Care Medical has a contract with Lehigh County Jail to provide medical services for inmates incarcerated there. Alexander no longer works for Prime Care, Martin said.

According to the news release from the DA’s office, during the months of June and July of this year, while Alexander was working at the jail as a contracted LPN, jail employees noticed unusually high foot traffic by an inmate to and from Alexander’s work station. As a result of these observations, an investigation was conducted by Clifford Knappenberger, an investigator for Lehigh County Jail, and Lehigh County Detective Edward Ressler, of the district attorney’s office.

In the course of the investigation, Martin said, “all of the recorded phone calls made from Lehigh County Jail to Alexander’s personal cellphone between June and July were pulled and analyzed.” It is alleged that 39 phone calls came from the inmate to Alexander’s cellphone during that time frame.

As a result of reviewing the content of the calls and interviewing the inmate, it is alleged that an inappropriate sexual relationship existed between Alexander and the inmate and took place at the jail.
