Quite a fright

Catty homeowners set up Halloween haunted trail

Every year, Mike and Juliann Smith put on an elaborate Halloween display in the yard around their house at 303 Bridge St., Catasauqua.

“It’s quite a project, but over the years, we keep adding new things,” Mike Smith said.

The event gets a lot of play.

“Some of the kids don’t go through the trail, but I’m prepared for them,” Juliann Smith said. “We usually give out a thousand treats.”

There is a dollar charge to get scared — and it is a bargain. The admission fee is donated to a local charity. This year, the funds assisted local wrestling teams. Sadly, some of last year’s funds were stolen, so the collection post was moved closer to the house.

You can expect to see some of your holiday favorites, as ghosts and ghoulish figures populate the trail. There are bodies floating in the pool. There are one-of-a-kind props, including a noosed mannequin.

Where to start? The operating room is a good place.

The surprise at the end is the one that sends a few jumpy kids scampering down the driveway.

Not a better way to spend a buck on Halloween.

The Smiths’ Halloween haunt is closed now for this season, but watch for signs of set-up next year.
