Lehigh County Board of Commissioners President Marty Nothstein presented farewell plaques to outgoing Commissioners David Jones, Thomas Creighton and Michael Schware at the close of the meeting Dec. 20, 2017.

Jones stepped down as a Lehigh County commissioner for District 3, which includes the boroughs of Catasauqua and Hellertown, Hanover Township and parts of the cities of Allentown and Bethlehem.

Amy Zanelli was elected to the seat in the November election.

Lehigh County commissioners adopted a work agreement with Pennsylvania Social Services Union Local 668. Edwin Rodriquez, Children and Youth case worker supervisor, spoke to the commissioners and encouraged them to visit with union members, have informal chats to learn about what the social services workers are doing and hear more about the “challenges we face.”

Commissioner Brad Osborne thanked Rodriquez for his professional demeanor and conduct during the presentation.

Also at the meeting, the board approved the appointment of Gabriel Kleis to the Lehigh County Drug and Alcohol Abuse Advisory Board.

In other business, commissioners listened to the first reading of bills and gave their preliminary approval. The bills will be approved at the Jan. 10 meeting.

Among the pending motions, resolutions and bills presented were mostly professional services agreements with various vendors.
