High school: No school Jan. 15 for holiday

Wednesday, January 10, 2018 by The Press in School

Schools in the Catasauqua Area School District will be closed Jan. 15 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

There will be an introductory meeting for any student interested in participating in the emerging health care and engineering program through Lehigh Carbon Community College, Lehigh Career Technical Institute and Penn State in the Catasauqua High School guidance office sometime during this month. Any student who is interested in doing this their senior year should plan to attend this meeting.

Please listen to the daily announcements for further information.

A reminder to all parents and guardians: An absence excuse must be submitted within three days for any student who has missed school. Acceptable forms of absence excuses are written excuses, online excuses, emails and faxes. A written or typed excuse or fax must be signed by the student’s parent/guardian or physician. The email must come from the parent/guardian’s email account. The online excuse must have an electronic signature of the parent/guardian. The absentee hotline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by calling 610-264-4341 and entering 1.

Please reach out to the high school main office with any questions or concerns.

Entry-level job opportunities exist with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for recently graduated high school students who have an interest in working in clerical, trades, labor and tourism. In addition to these positions, the department is also looking for individuals for their winter maintenance program, which runs each year from October through March and could lead to permanent employment.

If interested, apply at Select job opportunities under the non-civil service heading; on the next page, select clerical support positions, facilities laborers/custodial positions, automotive/diesel mechanic positions and/or public relations and marketing positions; and then click apply to begin the application process.

For seasonal positions, select PennDOT winter maintenance program.
