Paone, Yanek keep positions; Keglovits begins term

North Catasauqua Borough Council elected to maintain status quo for most of its positions at the Jan. 2 reorganization meeting.

Peter Paone will continue to serve as president. John Joseph Yanek will remain vice president, and Michele Hazzard will serve as president pro tempore.

Council welcomed its newest member, Joseph T. Keglovits, who assumed the seat that was previously held by William Nothstein.

Steve Goudsouzian will remain the borough’s solicitor, and David Kutzor will continue to serve as the borough’s zoning officer.

Kim Moyer and Shawn McGinley received unanimous support to continue in their respective roles of police chief and fire chief.

Council approved the 2018 garbage rate of $305, with a $20 discount for senior citizens over the age of 65 and a $10 discount for anyone who pays the invoice within 30 days of being billed.

Paone announced the borough received approval for two grants from Northampton County for the upcoming year. Each grant is worth $25,000 with the possibility of more through a match stipulation from the county.

One grant is designated for a feasibility study on installing an elevator at the borough’s municipal building. The second is for renovations at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park.

The next borough council meeting will take place 7 p.m. Jan. 15.
