Valley soccer scholar athletes named announced

The 2017 top male and female Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar Athletes will be announced during the annual awards banquet on Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Northampton Banquet and Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave., Northampton.

The winners will come from the 44 schools which nominated their top male and female players.

Also, longtime soccer referee and assignor, Harold Grahn, will be inducted into the Lehigh Valley Soccer Hall of Fame.

The keynote speaker will be Rob Berkowitz, head men’s and women’s coach at East Stroudsburg University. Tickets, $30, are still available, dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Contact Carol Golden, for more information.


Madison Emery is the daughter of Greg and Dawn Emery. She’s a three-year varsity player and was named second team all-league. She participates in travel soccer, basketball and track. She’s a member of student council as secretary and is the Varsity “C” Club’s treasurer. She plans to attend a four-year college.

Steven Ritter is the son of Cathy and Stevan Ritter. He’s a three-year varsity player and played in the Bethlehem and Tri-Boro soccer clubs. He also takes part in cross country, basketball and baseball. He plans to be come a pharmacist.


Autumn Van Horn is the daughter of Jeff and Aucara. She’s a two-year varsity player and member of the National Honor Society. She plans to study business.

Nicholas Hanna is the son of Kamar and Rana Hanna. He’s a two-year varsity player and captain and played with Tri Boro and Bath-East Allen soccer. She plans to study nursing at Temple University.


Kassidy Cunningham is the daughter of Tim and Tammi. She’s a four-year varsity player and played with Western Lehigh LVU and also plays field hockey. She’s a National Honor Society member and plans to study business.

Joseph Hana is the son of Elian and Rita Hana. He’s a two-year varsity player, captain and also played with Western Lehigh. He’s a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the National Honor Society. He plans to study speech.
