Wednesday, March 7, 2018 by DOUG GRAVES Special to The Press in Local News

During the Feb. 14 meeting of Lehigh County Board of Commissioners, Paul Semmel, of North Whitehall Township, and Adele Bonn Shannon, of Center Valley, were appointed to the Lehigh County Conservation District.

Commissioners also named Lauren Condon, of Allentown, to the Children and Youth Services Advisory Board.

Commissioner Nathan Brown commended the appointees’ service as volunteers.

“Voluntarism is important to the community. I encourage the public to volunteer to serve their towns and their communities,” he said.

Before the start of the meeting, Director of General Services Richard Molchany briefed commissioners on the status of plans to consolidate Lehigh County’s and the City of Allentown’s 911 services.

In other business, the board gave first approval to an agreement with Lehigh Valley Planning Commission to update the hazard mitigation plan.

Commissioners tentatively approved an extension of Good Shepherd’s management contract at Cedarbrook nursing facility. Commissioner Geoff Brace commended the work done by Good Shepherd at the nursing facility.

“It’s a first-class operation,” he said.

Commissioner Percy Dougherty expanded the positive endorsement of a renewal of Good Shepherd’s contract by making the unanimously accepted suggestion that the entire board sign on as sponsors of the bill.

Also approved at the first reading was a subcontract agreement with the Pennsylvania State University for mosquito-borne disease control.
