Candidates forum planned for May 2

Wednesday, April 25, 2018 by CONTRIBUTED ARTICLE in Local News

The League of Women Voters of Northampton and Lehigh counties are co-sponsoring a candidates forum for the new 7th Congressional District 7-8:30 p.m. May 2. It is being hosted by Northampton Community College and will take place in Alumnae Hall on the main campus, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township. Doors open 6:30 p.m. to allow some time to meet and greet candidates. Parking is plentiful.

Charles W. Dent, of the former 15th Congressional District, is retiring in 2018 after 13 years of service to Pennsylvania. In February of this year, as a result of a court petition brought by the League of Women Voters, et al, against the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, et al, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has issued a remedial redistricting map that now puts Lehigh and Northampton counties, as well as part of Monroe County, in a new district — the 7th U.S. Congressional District.

Vying for the Congressional seat representing this new district are Republicans Dean Browning and Marty Nothstein, of Lehigh County, and six Democratic candidates — Rick Daugherty, Greg Edwards, David Clark and Susan Wild, of Lehigh County, and John Morganelli and Roger Ruggles, of Northampton County.
