North Catasauqua: Catty seniors to meet May 23

Sherri Bell will speak on the benefits of exercise and maintaining functional ability at the May 23 meeting of Catty Seniors Plus.

The organization meets at the Slovak Center Social Club, 1223 Fifth St. Doors open noon, and the meeting begins 1 p.m.

Those planning to attend are asked to bring an item for the Catasauqua Food Bank.

Coffee and dessert will be served, and bingo will be played.

The group is also hosting a July 10 bus trip to see the musical “Jesus” at Sight & Sound. Call Nancy Matika at 610-360-6543 to make a reservation.

On the fourth Friday of each month, the group hosts a bus trip to a casino. This month is Hollywood Casino. There are no seats available on this month’s bus, but call Nancy to be placed on the substitute list in case a regular rider cannot attend.


The annual North Catasauqua community yard sale and flea market will be 8 a.m.-2 p.m. June 9 at the North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park. Rain date is June 23.

Vendors must provide their own tables and tents, as desired. Set-up is 6:30-7:30 a.m., and vendors must depart by 3 p.m. Registration is open through June 8 to area residents.

The event is sponsored by the North Catasauqua We Sing community chorus.

The North Catasauqua Betterment Committee is once again sponsoring a golf tournament in June this year.

The 12th annual small Town USA Golf Tournament, to be held 8:30 a.m. June 10 at Willowbrook Golf Course, is open to the public.

This will be one of the last golf events to be held on Willowbrook’s current 18-hole course. The tournament will feature a shotgun start with a four-person scramble format.

The final registration date is 4 p.m. June 8. There will be a men’s and women’s division.

The tournament raises money for needed items and projects for the North Catasauqua community, as well as for North Catasauqua Betterment Committee events and projects.

The 12th annual North Catasauqua small Town USA carnival will be held June 13-16 at the North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park.

The event will feature free live music, carnival rides, games, a raffle and food court.

Discounted carnival rides are offered on family nights, Thursday and Saturday, and with the purchase of a four-day wristband, which is available in advance at borough hall.

The betterment committee is looking for volunteers to help at the carnival and the golf tournament. Volunteer for as little as an hour, or more if you would like!
