The Colonial League and East Penn Conference split their doubleheader in the Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar-Athlete Foundation All-Star Soccer Classic on Sunday, June 3, at Salisbury High School.

The EPC girls were victorious by a score of 4-1 in the opener, with the Colonial League boys winning the second leg 2-1.

Pleasant Valley’s Morgan Covart got the EPC girls on the scoreboard less than three minutes into the contest with a long-range shot that curled into the right side of the net.

The Colonial League responded midway through the first half when Moravian Academy’s Rachel Burcaw scored with a volley off a corner kick. Northwestern’s Abby Chisdak got credit for the assist.

Northwestern goalkeeper McKenna Amey made several acrobatic saves in the first half to keep the Colonial League within range, but the EPC broke the game open with three unanswered goals.

Parkland’s Jenna Leonzi and Helen Flynn each recorded a goal and Pocono Mountain East’s Taylor Caridi capped the scoring for the East Penn Conference. Kayla Argen of Pocono Mountain East and Kayla Reed of Central Catholic got credit for assists.

Despite having a lineup that was nearly half the size of their counterpart, the Colonial League boys put together an impressive performance in their 2-1 victory.

After a scoreless opening 30 minutes, Notre Dame-Green Pond’s Luke Fleissner knocked home a header off a free kick to give the Colonial League a 1-0 lead.

The EPC responded five minutes later when East Stroudsburg-South’s Darryl Longdon pounced on a rebound near the goal line as Dawson Berger of Parkland got credit for the assist.

Northwestern Lehigh’s Noah Meyers broke the tie with ten minutes remaining in the contest. Meyes received a pass in stride from the Tigers Andrew Goodolf and slipped the ball past Parkland goalkeeper Jake Varrato for the game-winner.

Alex Ficarra of Notre Dame, Taylor Wanamaker of Northwestern, Daniel Elmi of Moravian and Ryan Yacone of Palmerton saw time in net for the Colonial League.

Catty’s Grant Gebhardt represented the Rough Riders in the game for the Colonial boys.
