Coplay: Parade is May 18

Wednesday, May 8, 2019 by The Press in Columns

Anticipation is growing as we approach the 150th anniversary parade, scheduled for 1 p.m. May 18.

The parade begins at the corner of Ninth and Chestnut streets. The route will proceed down Chestnut Street, take a right onto Second Street, to Hokendauqua Street and up to Fifth Street.

The Stanley W. Reinhard Jr. American Legion Post 426 Honor Guard will lead the parade.

The Whitehall High School Marching Zephyr Band will lead the musical groups, which will include the Freedom High School Patriot Marching Band, Bethlehem, and the Blue Eagles Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps, Wind Gap.

Mayor Dean Molitoris and borough council will be among the political figures in the parade, along with Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong. State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-133rd, and state Sen. Lisa Boscola, D-18th, or their representatives, will also be in attendance.

The borough’s three churches — St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. Peter Roman Catholic Church and the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Living Spring Praise Arena — will take part in the event.

Representing law enforcement will be the Coplay Police Department, Whitehall Police Department and the Pennsylvania State Police. The Coplay Fire Department will also show its borough pride. Members of the public works department will march in the parade as well.

Various clubs and organizations will also be found at the parade, including Coplay Sports, Coplay Saengerbund, Coplay Garden Club, Coplay Public Library, American Club of Coplay, veterans organizations and more.
