Hanover names new manager
Hanover Township has appointed Melissa Wehr as its new township manager. She replaces Christopher Garges, who moved on to fill an opening in North Whitehall Township.
Wehr gained her experience in municipal government as a zoning and codes officer in Whitehall Township.
“I am excited to be in Hanover. I have an excellent staff to support me,” she said.
A major project Wehr will be involved in is the River Central Regional Comprehensive Plan. The regional plan coordinates zoning across Catasauqua, North Catasauqua and Northampton boroughs and East Allen and Hanover (Lehigh County) townships.
The cooperative effort between the municipalities allows each municipality to meet the requirements of the statewide municipal code and uphold quality-of-life features in their respective communities. For example, warehousing components can be satisfied with developments in Hanover, agriculture can be allocated for East Allen, low-rise apartments can be established in Catasauqua and single-family residences can be expanded in North Catasauqua.
A big part of the plan is to increase trails and walkable spaces throughout the regional area.
Wehr’s background in zoning and code enforcement suits her well to take on this vital role.
“I want to continue to move the township forward with technology improvements,” she added. “Hanover is a great place to live and work.”
