Coplay: Street cleaning is set for May 7, 8

Wednesday, April 22, 2020 by The Press in Columns

Street cleaning will occur May 7 and 8 in the borough, despite the mild winter and later heavy rains.

Streets will be swept from Front Street to Ruch Street. No alleys will be swept.

Funding for the project comes from the state’s liquid fuel tax account, not borough real estate taxes.

Several “for sale” signs on residential properties in the borough have been taken down since the onset of the coronavirus. The homes will later be listed for sale once communities get back to normal.

Coplay Car Wash and Reph’s Auto Repairs are both going before the borough zoning hearing board on appeals to planned changes.

The car wash at Fifth and Hokendauqua streets has plans to close and convert the property to a storage facility.

Reph’s has plans to construct a third bay to its facility at Second and Center streets.

Both appellants need a variance from the zoning board to proceed with their plans.

The hearings await the opening of the borough hall, which has been closed due to the coronavirus.

The American Club of Coplay hoagie making, the Commitment to Family & Community monthly Sunday breakfast and St. Peter Roman Catholic Church pierogie operations all have shut down for the month due to the virus.
