Tree lighting ceremony set for Sunday

The borough's annual tree-lighting ceremony will be held Sunday, Nov. 25, 5:30 p.m., at Main Street and Laubach Avenue. The rain date is Nov. 26.

Santa will arrive via a fire truck with treats for the kids.

Northampton Borough will hold its annual Christmas Lights Contest this year with $175 in prizes awarded.

A representative from the club will drive around to all the participating houses between Dec. 15 and 20 and will contact the three winners before Christmas. This contest is only open to homes, not businesses.

The Northampton Borough Municipal Building, 1401 Laubach Ave., will be closed Nov. 22 and 23 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

St. John's Friendly Fifties meets Monday

St. John's Friendly Fifties will meet Monday, Nov. 12, 1 p.m., in the church's social hall, 1343 Newport Ave.

Cracked Walnuts will entertain.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1235 Main St., will host a basket bingo Saturday, Nov. 10. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the games begin at 1 p.m.

The cost of a ticket includes 20 games. Specials will be sold separately.

Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Library seeks board member candidates

The Northampton Area Public Library is currently seeking candidates to fill a vacancy that now exists on the library board plus another upcoming vacancy.

Candidates should have a strong sense of advocacy for public library services.

These positions are three-year terms and involve meetings the second Wednesday of the month starting at 7 p.m. Meetings generally run two hours.

Board members' duties also include reviewing documents, leading a subcommittee meeting, advocating for the library at public events and participating in strategic planning.

Annual Jack Frost Parade next Thursday

The 64th Annual Jack Frost Parade, presented by the Northampton Exchange Club, will take place on Thursday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m. The rain date is Oct. 25.

The route will be the same as the previous two years.

Candy will be thrown, so bring your goodie bags!

Library receives $4,000 grant

Congratulations to the Northampton Area Public Library, which has received a $4,000 grant from the Best Buy Children's Foundation.

It comes from the Community Grants program in partnership with local Best Buy stores to support programs that help youth excel in school, engage in their communities and develop life and leadership skills.

Historical society to host talk tonight

The Northampton Area Historical Society will host a talk tonight, Thursday, Sept. 27, 7 p.m., at the Northampton Fire Department, 1 Lerchenmiller Drive.

Douglas Peters will speak on the trolleys of the Lehigh Valley.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

The historical society will also hold a garage sale Saturday, Oct. 6, 8 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Siegfried Railroad Station, West 21st Street.

Those interested in donating items are asked to bring them to the station Oct. 4 and 5, 6-8 p.m.

Liederkranz to host spaghetti dinner Friday

The Northampton Liederkranz, 402 E. Ninth St., will hold a spaghetti dinner Friday, Sept. 14, 5-8 p.m.

Karaoke will follow at 9 p.m.

A breakfast will be held Sunday, Sept. 16, 8 a.m.-noon. There is a cost.

The Siegfried Railroad Station, home of the Northampton Area Historical Society, will be open to visitors on Sunday, Sept. 16, 1-4 p.m. The station is located on West 21st Street.

This year's special exhibits include Rotary International, the Laubach family and a World War II display featuring the Capkovic family.
