CMS News Column: Middle school students return

Welcome back students! After a restful and enjoyable summer, school is back in swing for Catasauqua Middle School students.

I am the new columnist for CMS News. I have been covering school board meetings and other district-related news the past two and a half years and have also photographed school district and community events.

Northampton column: Library to hold rubber-stamping class

The Northampton Area Public Library will hold a rubber-stamping and card-making class on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 9:30-11 a.m., at the library, 1615 Laubach Ave.

There is a fee for materials, and you will create cards with envelopes.

Seating is limited.

Assumption BVM Church will hold its annual picnic Sunday, Sept. 9, at the Egypt Memorial Park.

The Playdrome Rose Bowl Golden Agers Senior Mixed Bowling League is seeking new members.

The 40-member league, which plays at 15th Street and Sumner Avenue in Allentown, would like to increase the membership in order to add more teams and players.

Most of the current members live in the Allentown and Whitehall areas but new members can come from anywhere.

All league members must be age 55 or older.

The 32-week winter bowling season starts at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 30....

Knerr: Academy not ready

Catasauqua Area School District Solicitor David Knerr advised school board members during the board's Aug. 13 meeting that if the Medical Academy Charter School, located at 330 Howertown Road, and scheduled to open Sept. 4, does not fulfill certain stipulations, the school board may commence revocation proceedings against the school.

Catasauqua approves property changes

Brian Zettlemoyer of 27 Front St., Catasauqua, received approval from Catasauqua Borough Council to make changes to lot lines on three properties he owns on Front Street.

"What we are doing is to make more parking spaces available for the 27 Front St. property," said Zettlemoyer at council's meeting Aug. 6.

He said the property was once used as a doctor's office and is zoned commercial.
