Police collect unused medications

Lehigh County police departments collected 944.5 pounds of unused and expired medications during the fifth annual National Take Back Day drug collection Sept. 29.

Medications were collected at 16 sites in Lehigh County. The total collected in the county during the last five events is 3,268.5 pounds.

At the most recent event, the Catasauqua Police Department collected 10 pounds of medications and the Whitehall Township Police Department collected 28.5 pounds.

Dogs strut their stuff at Doggie Day

Full of energy and excitement, many dogs barked and sniffed throughout the grounds of Whitehall Parkway during the Whitehall Doggie Day and Pet Parade Saturday, Sept. 29.

The event, sponsored by Whitehall Area Chamber of Commerce, allowed residents to bring their dogs to the park to participate in different events.

Proceeds from the event will benefit The Animal Health and Welfare Center, Peaceable Kingdom and Lehigh Valley CART.

The 64th Annual Jack Frost Parade, presented by the Northampton Exchange Club, will take place on Thursday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m. The rain date is Oct. 25.

The route will be the same as the previous two years.

A macadam access roadway, located across from Hardcore Ink on Front Street, was the subject of a Catasauqua Borough Council public hearing held at the borough municipal complex Sept. 10.

The council considered whether to take over the roadway and place the 80-foot-long strip on the official borough map. The roadway was once used to access the main gate at the old Fuller Plant.

September is National Preparedness Month and the board of commissioners passed a resolution at their Sept. 26 meeting to honor the American Red Cross for their service to Lehigh County.

Vehicle tires slashed

Coplay police on Sunday were called to the unit block of South Fourth Street to investigate a report of damage to a vehicle.

Police on arriving at the scene found two tires slashed on a neighbor's vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was not available at the time of the report, police stated.

The neighbor informed police he observed two tires slashed on his neighbor's vehicle while it was parked in front of his home.
