Health secretary says cases beginning to plateau

Pennsylvania Department of Health officials have reported a state total of 25,345 COVID-19 cases and 584 deaths, as of April 14.

In Lehigh County, 1,803 cases and 23 deaths have been reported.

In Northampton County, 1,176 cases and 25 deaths have been reported.

North Catasauqua police responded to these and other calls recently.


Officers performed security checks in the 1300 block of Third Street and the 1000 block of Fourth Street.

Police assisted a citizen on Arch Street.


Security checks were conducted in the 1000 block of Fourth Street and the 1400 block of Main Street.

The department assisted Catasauqua police in the 300 block of Walnut Street and the 1400 block of Main Street.


Catty woman charged in shooting

According to a news release from Catasauqua Police Chief Douglas Kish, officers responded to a shooting at 622 Third St. April 10.

Officers received a 911 call and were dispatched to the scene of the reported shooting.

Upon arrival, a male was found on the third floor with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem, by Northampton Regional EMS. As of press time, his condition is unknown.

I hope everyone had a very happy Easter. It is certainly one we will never forget.

Now that it’s been over a month, I think everyone who followed the guidelines of social distancing — staying at home except for essentials such as groceries, pharmacies, work, etc. — deserves to be applauded and to know we are all making a difference.

Our government says this is working. It is certainly encouraging news.

Northampton: Borough property remains closed

Northampton Borough Municipal Building and the borough’s parks and playground remain closed to the public, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The borough’s April meetings will not be held.

The recreation center and the Atlas Cement Company Memorial Museum are also closed until further notice.

Northampton Banquet and Event Center is temporarily canceling its popular Monday night bingo.
