Police seek

witnesses to

fatal crash

MacArthur Road was closed Tuesday from Eberhardt Road to Mechanicsville Road to allow police to perform a fatal accident reconstruction.

Two people were killed Saturday in the crash which took place at 6:09 p.m. at MacArthur and Eberhart roads in Whitehall.

Police have tentatively identified the victims as Whitehall residents Sharon Gonazalez-Medina, 41, and a 16-year-old juvenile. Both were in the same vehicle.

Officers were called to the 800 block of Main Street to investigate a burglary in process.

A report of criminal mischief brought police to the 1600 block of Newport Avenue.

U.S. Luge Team sleds lost, found

Police were called to Airport Road near Old Carriage Road in East Allen Township Feb. 15 to investigate a report of lost sleds owned by the U.S. Luge Team Association of Lake Place, N.Y.

Police said the rear door of a box truck opened and sleds owned by the U.S. Luge Team fell off the truck and onto the road.

In a separate incident report issued Feb. 22, police reported a citizen who lives near Route 248 on Dannersville Road found the sleds.

The resident thought they belonged to a neighbor and stored them in a garage, police said.

Crime Watch meeting set

Whitehall Township will hold its next Crime Watch meeting 7 p.m. Feb. 25 in the public meeting room of the municipal building.

Whitehall Mayor Edward Hozza Jr. will deliver his state of the township address, which will detail the township's growth, construction progress, projected completion schedules, future plans, goals and township direction for 2013.

Also during the meeting, Denise Continenza will speak on Communities that Care and Scott Grim will provide information on the Community Emergency Response Team.

MEM execs out on bail

Two executives of Municipal Energy Managers Inc. (MEM), of Moscow, Lackawanna County, surrendered to authorities Thursday, Feb. 14.

Robert J. Kearns, president of MEM, and Patrick McLaine, secretary and treasurer of MEM, were arraigned in Lehigh County Central Booking by District Judge Robert C. Halal on charges stemming from the alleged theft of more than $160,000 from the Borough of Coplay.

Kearns and McLaine were released on $250,000 unsecured bail.

Police report record

The Pennsylvania State Police, Fogelsville, recently reported it set a single-year record for DUI arrests, proactive enforcement, incidents investigated and criminal arrests in 2012.

For the year 2012, state police reported 527 arrests for DUI, 9,620 traffic citations, 13,286 incidents investigated, 1,101 criminal arrests and 5,104 warnings issued

Trailer found with marijuana

State police on Feb. 4 at 10:45 p.m. discovered a goose hunting trailer with marijuana hidden underneath the wheel well.

Police investigating armed robbery

Two men wearing black hooded sweatshirts, masks and gloves robbed the Knights Inn, 1880 Steelstone Road, Hanover Township, Lehigh County.

The incident took place Feb. 1 at 10:50 p.m. when the two men entered the lobby and pointed handguns at two victims, police said.

One of the men jumped over the lobby registration desk counter top and began searching through cabinets and drawers. The man stole an iPhone 3 and $427 from the cash register, police said.
