Whitehall man dies in crash

LEHIGH TWP.

A Whitehall Township man died Tuesday in a three-vehicle accident on Route 145 in Lehigh Township.

According to reports, Richard J. Pasko, 26, of Grape Street, was killed in the crash, which occurred about 5:30 p.m. in the area of 3 Mile Lane and closed a section of the highway.

Pasko was pronounced dead at the scene. He died from multiple blunt force trauma, according to Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek, who said the death was ruled an accident.

According to reports, a woman was injured in the crash.

An unwanted person in the 100 block of Front Street was reported. The report said there was an issue with an ex-boyfriend.

In the 100 block of Front Street, Katelyn Viola, 27, of Catasauqua, was cited for disorderly conduct.

A hit-and-run accident occurred in the 1600 block of Main Street. The report said a legally parked vehicle was struck, causing a dent and scratch on the front bumper.

Police investigated a domestic dispute between a male and female in the 100 block of West 28th Street.

A male harassing another male brought officers to the 1500 block of Main Street.

Catasauqua resident charged in alleged theft of gift cards

District Attorney Jim Martin recently announced a former City of Allentown employee has been charged in connection with an alleged theft.

Jenny Scala, 48, of 435 St. John St., Catasauqua, has been charged with one count each of theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property, both misdemeanors of the first degree.

Scala turned herself in and was arraigned through Central Booking by Magisterial District Judge Karen Devine and released on unsecured bail.

Fullerton residents shelter in place during police standoff

Whitehall Township police officers responded to a call March 28 to assist officers from Allentown Police Department with apprehending a suspect believed to be in a residence in the 500 block of Catasauqua Avenue, Fullerton.

According to the news release, the Lehigh County Municipal Emergency Response Team (MERT) responded at approximately 5:30 p.m., assisted by a crisis negotiation team, in an attempt to have the suspect surrender himself.

The suspect, identified as Ayoub J. Tawil, was wanted on felony charges, police said.

Troop M, Pennsylvania State Police, and several other local agencies have announced that heightened Easter holiday traffic enforcement will begin 1 a.m. March 30 and continue through midnight on the night of April 1.

The Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement Education Program, Selective Traffic Enforcement Against Drunk Driving and Drug Recognition Expert programs will target aggressive drivers or those under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Speeding, reckless driving, seat belt and child safety seat violations will also be targeted.

A hit-and-run accident occurred in the 1700 block of Main Street. The report said a legally parked vehicle was struck, damaging the driver side. A late-model black Hyundai was seen leaving and continuing south on Main Street.

Police investigated a theft in the unit block of West 26th Street. The report said two ceramic ducks were taken from the front porch of a residence. They both have a date and the name “JAKE” baked into the bottom.
