Catty field hockey traveled to Saucon Valley on Saturday morning and won by a score of 1-0 over the Panthers.
Most of the first half the ball was on the Lady Roughies offensive end. Catty had some nice give-and-go passes and moved the ball efficently. Rachel Peters scored on an unassisted blast into the goal with 17:12 left in the the first half.
The Rough Riders had a few opportunities to score in the game but came up short.
"Today, we played very solid. In the second...
Editor's Note: Duke Helm, the District 11 statistician provides the District 11 Football Notes. These note are after week 3 of the high school season.
Liberty's KJ Williams caught three TD passes against Nazareth to become the all-time school leader in TD catches. Williams now has 17 for his career, breaking Joe Donaher's record of 15 TD catches set from 1965-67. Williams now has 1,046 yards receiving in his career to become the fifth Hurricane to accomplish that.
The Catty cross country team sits at 13-6 this season.
Zac Edwards, one of the tri-captains of the Rough Riders, said the team sticks together and is part of the reason for their success.
"We are a close-knit group," he said. "We hang out together, work the football games together, go out to eat together."
As sophomores Edwards and his class were 0-25, last year as juniors they were 11-14.
"We have a shot at placing in districts and advancing to states," Edwards...
If the success of the Catasauqua's girls' volleyball team can be equated to a horseracing track, the Roughies would be heading into the final turn with a moderate chance of a considerable finish.
In recent years, the program endured a 60-game losing streak that was mercifully snapped on the final match of the 2011 season. This season, first-year head coach and former standout Lindsay Arndt has worked diligently to restore some respectability to the program and has instilled a solid...
The Rough Riders thought they had a shot at a victory against Palmerton, which was fired up to get a win for their coach and former Roughie player Ryan Sharkazy.
Sharkazy came back to his alma mater for the first time and guided the Blue Bombers to a 6-2 Colonial League victory.
Sharkazy is a first-year head coach and Palmerton is now 3-6.
Blue Bomber Austin Shupp had a hat trick and an assist. Gabe Scott scored a goal and registered two assists. Jonathan Schwartz and...
Playing together on the same team at the varsity level, brothers Zach and Jacob Stopay have been cherishing every moment on the football field this fall. In fact, it has been the first time in two years overall they have played together, the last being on the junior varsity level for the Roughies.
"It has been just awesome," said older brother Zach, who is a senior. "We have been waiting to do this. We have also been there to congratulate and pick each other up when we need to. This...
Tuesday's game at Salisbury was mostly an offensive game. Right from the start the offense went to work and had the ball on the Catasauqua side almost the whole first half.
With solid passing and consistent efforts, Catty finally scored with about seven minutes left in the half. Freshman Hannah Edwards had an incredible tip to get the ball in the cage and give the Roughs the lead.
It was all they needed as the Roughs won 2-0.
But, in the second half, the Lady Roughies...
With a total of 169 points and a scoring average of 42.2 points per game through their first four contests, it may be hard to debate whether Catasauqua may have trouble with Saucon Valley Friday night.
The visiting Panthers will enter Alumni Field with an overall 1-3 record and they gained their lone victory last weekend in a 42-7 rout of Palmerton.
Still, Roughies' head coach Tom Falzone isn't about to celebrate any anticipated victories or a Colonial League title just yet....
Catty trailed Tamaqua 2-0 with 11:46 to play in the first half at Thomas Field last Saturday morning in a 10 a.m. game. The Blue Raiders are a proverbial District 11 participant and won 4-1.
"The Tamaqua game was much closer and much more open then the score would indicate," said head coach Mike Baclawski. "We played some of our best soccer, over longer periods of time this game. We were a bit more consistent in our play and we moved pretty well as a team. But it's the mistakes again...
We're into week four of the poll and not much has changed on the forefront. Easton maintains their stay at the top, while Nazareth gets a bump. Parkland picked up their first win of the year and Catasauqua looks to keep their Colonial League title aspirations rolling.

1. Easton (3-0)
