Tommy Ference: From one wizard to another

Drummer Tommy Ference has gone from being in a group named after a wizard to becoming one of the Wizards.

Ference, drummer for Lehigh Valley classic rock band, Gandalf, is the drummer for The Wizards of Winter, presenting "A Trans Siberian Experience," a concert tribute to the Trans Siberian Orchestra, 4 p.m. Dec. 8, State Theatre for the Arts, Easton.

Although band members do not consider themselves part of a tribute group, their initial goal was to faithfully reproduce the music of the Trans Siberian Orchestra in a more intimate setting.

Holiday recital

Community Music School holds its annual Holiday Recital, 1:30 p.m. Dec. 7, Miller Symphony Hall, 23 N. Sixth St., Allentown.

Students of various ages, backgrounds and skill levels perform a range of music from classical to pop. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert finale is an original holiday medley composed by one of CMS' long-time students. Michael G. Michael directs the piece performed by student musicians.

The concert includes Impressions, a jazz group, and Vocal Fusion, which performs contemporary vocals.

"Dallas Buyers Club" provides an alternative view of the Texas metropolis.

While the film's title might sound like the name of a club those on Bravo's "Real Housewives of Dallas" (set for a 2014 telecast start) might belong to, or a QVC telemarketing spinoff, "Dallas Buyers Club" is about a company organized to provide what was purported to be H.I.V.-positive antidotes soon after the virus was identified.

Jingle Babes rock: The Jingle Babes, above, "Deck the Halls with Songs and Folly," 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5, State Theatre for the Arts, 453 Northampton St., Easton. The Jingle Babes is the holiday edition of The Four Bitchin' Babes, which has been dazzling audiences on stage for more than 20 years, including nine recordings and a concert DVD. The Babes (Sally Fingerett, Debi Smith, Deirdre Flint, Marcy Marxer), who accompanying themselves on guitar, mandolin, ukulele, bass, piano and the Irish Bodhran, sing and perform an evening of carols and comedy in four-part harmony.

Yuletide Revels

The annual Yuletide Revels begin at 5 p.m. Dec. 7, Trinity Episcopal Church, 44 E. Market St., Bethlehem.

The duo, Flute and Lute, which is musicians Mindy Rosenfeld and Ronn McFarlane, perform seasonal early music. The concert concludes with a Boar's Head Procession featuring "Dancing Bear."

A reception of Yuletide goodies, including wassail, nog and flaming Christmas pudding follows.
